Showing support for Withington Girls’ School’s WithGambia programme
Withington Girls’ School’s WithGambia programme is a 20-years-in-the-making initiative with a mission: to advance educational opportunities in some of Gambia’s most remote and underserved areas, making a tangible difference for communities in need.
This year, Cocogreen is proud to contribute to the cause with a donation of £1,500. This funding will help support the school’s Year 12 students as they embark on their trip to Gambia this week, where they will be helping to build on the programme’s successful projects to date:
Establishing and funding nursery and infant schools
Setting up a women’s literacy centre to empower education at all levels
Funding a borehole to improve access to clean water
Facilitating the construction of new classrooms and supporting their ongoing maintenance
Contributing towards teachers’ salaries, ensuring sustainability in education
Beyond financial support, we have been thrilled to collaborate with the school to deliver the first of Cocogreen’s local education outreach initiatives.
Students visited Cocogreen to introduce us to the WithGambia programme, and paint a picture of the lives of Gambians in these areas – an educational moment for our team.
In turn, the Cocogreen team have curated presentation sessions designed to introduce students to the world of CleanTech while complementing their curriculum. Through this, we have communicated the critical role of crop-growing in the global economy, its geographical importance, as well as alighting upon the innovative science behind our technologies.
We are inspired by the continuing work of Withington Girls’ School and look forward to continuing our support for the WithGambia programme, helping to build brighter futures and cultivate a lasting impact together, both locally and globally.
